Apple Valley Fire Department Chief Michael Gross said the incident occurred midway between mileposts 9 and 10 on state Route 59 at approximately 1 p.m.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Cameron Roden told St. George News a 36-year-old woman was driving westbound towards Hurricane in a 2009 Dodge Ram when the incident occurred

“It went off the road to the right, went through a fence, rolled and struck a power pole coming to rest on its top,” Roden said “The female, the only occupant, was extricated and transported in serious condition.”

Roden said an investigation is being conducted and driving under the influence could not be ruled out as a possible cause.

“Witnesses reported the vehicle driving recklessly and excessive speeds,” he said.

The cause of the incident remains under investigation and no citations have been issued until the investigation is complete.

Colorado City-Hildale Fire Chief Kevin Barlow said his department responded as backup to Apple Valley’s units. Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Utah Highway Patrol troopers also assisted at the scene.

Roden said he did not know the condition of the woman, who was taken to St. George Regional Hospital.

This report is based on statements from court records, police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings. Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
