The incident, which was reported shortly after 1 p.m. on Monterey Drive (approximately 500 South), involved a white and red Honda dirt bike with an adult male rider and a silver Pontiac Grand Am occupied by three men.

According to Cedar City Police and witnesses at the scene, the driver of the Pontiac had been heading westbound on Monterey Drive when the motorcycle struck the car. Police said the motorcyclist reportedly ran through a stop sign while heading south on 75 East.

The motorcycle impacted the rear door on the passenger side of the Pontiac, injuring the man who was seated next to the door. Witnesses reported seeing a bleeding contusion on the man’s head.

Meanwhile, the rider was thrown from the bike during the collision and was also injured.

Cedar City Police Sgt. Justin Ludlow said both the motorcycle rider and the injured Pontiac passenger were taken to Cedar City Hospital via ambulance.

Ludlow said the rider’s injuries included a broken wrist and a broken leg and added that the man was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The motorcyclist will be cited for failing to obey a stop sign, Ludlow added.

There were no reported injuries to the other two men in the Pontiac (the driver and the front seat passenger), Ludlow said.

Police closed traffic along both residential streets while the scene was investigated and cleared. In addition to multiple Cedar City Police officers, a Utah Highway Patrol trooper also responded, as did Cedar City Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance crews.

Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were removed from the scene by tow trucks.

This report is based on preliminary statements from law enforcement officials and may not contain the full scope of findings.
