ST. GEORGE — Detectives recently arrested a suspect in the case of a bank robbed inside Harmons Grocery almost three months ago.

St. George Police Department Public Information Officer Tiffany Mitchell said Andre Rogers of Henderson, Nevada, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Nevada Violent Offender Task Force on Feb. 13.

After an extensive investigation by St. George Police, an arrest warrant was obtained and successfully carried out by law enforcement in Nevada. St. George Police detective Chad Lee told St. George News the 11-week investigation was a combination of gumshoe detective work using new technology.

Officers used surveillance footage provided by Harmons to determine the getaway car, a dark-colored Dodge Charger, allegedly used by Rogers. Doing “a reverse search,” they scoured surveillance footage from other St. George stores.

The vehicle was found on several occasions using store video before the robbery occurred, Lee said. The man driving it allegedly stole a license plate from a medical facility on River Road, was seen at a Maverik convenience store and then the Bloomington Walmart, where the driver allegedly entered the store 45 minutes before the credit union robbery.

“When the surveillance team at Walmart alerted us, we checked the in-store footage and noticed the man driving the Dodge Charger made several purchases,” Lee said. “I sent the name on the debit card that was used to my supervisor. He sent me back information about a career bank robber.”

According to a press release issued by the Federal Bureau of Investigations in 2010, Andre Byron Rogers was sentenced to serve 10 years in prison on April 5, 2010, by U.S. District Judge Philip M. Pro.

Rogers pleaded guilty to 11 counts of bank robbery and two counts of attempted bank robbery at banks in Las Vegas and California.

“In most of the robberies, Rogers entered the bank and handed a teller a demand note which stated there was a bomb planted nearby,” FBI officials said. “Rogers obtained about $24,000 total from all of the robberies.”

The St. George incident at Harmons Grocery occurred Nov. 21, 2023, as previously reported by St. George News. The scene, at 700 South and River Road, had multiple St. George police units respond amid a store bustling with holiday shoppers.

Lee said no weapon was used by the America First Credit Union robbery suspect. Instead, the suspect “handed the teller a note demanding money.”

Sgt. Zack Bahlmann said the Southern Utah community pulled together to ultimately solve the case, with the assistance of many professionals in Nevada.

“These cases can be pretty challenging … people take a lot of steps, they conceal their identities, they use disguises, they’re using stolen license plates — a lot of different things,” Bahlmann said. “So peeling back those layers and being able to see it through to a resolution is actually very satisfying and very rewarding.”

Rogers is currently incarcerated in Nevada awaiting extradition to Utah to face the robbery charges in St. George.
