ST. GEORGE — Dove Center’s largest fundraiser of the year exceeded expectations thanks to the community support of Dove’s new projects — including the acquisition of a new transitional housing facility and plans for additional housing projects to serve more victims in need.

This annual event aims to raise funds for survivors and share their stories of perseverance.

“We have seen such an increase in need in the last year,” Jillian Penhale, Dove Center’s executive director, said in a press release issued about the event. “These projects for the future are our best effort at trying to not only meet the need but plan for the future, as the populations of Washington and Kane County continue to grow.”

A highlight of the gala, held Saturday, was the announcement of a significant donation and matching gift from Joe Gibbons of Carpets Plus, to kickstart these projects. This generous gift, made in memory of Kristy Manzanares, who died as a result of domestic violence in 2017, deeply resonated with attendees.

Manzanares’ family, in attendance, expressed their anticipation for the future Kristy Suites for transitional housing and the forthcoming Kristy’s House project.

Coming into the evening, the organization had already received $1,500,000 through pledges for these projects, and their goal was to raise $500,000. With a match gift, they were able to achieve this aim, according to the news release. This $2 million in funding will go directly to support Dove’s essential services and aid in expansion projects to create more safe housing for victims of domestic violence.

Penhale said the organization’s annual gala is a great way for the community to become involved with Dove’s mission of empowering survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence.

“We served more than 1,400 survivors this past year,” Penhale said. “These survivors experienced crimes that typically thrive in silence. We want them to know that they’re not alone, and DOVE is here to help.”

Funds raised during the event will be used to provide free and inclusive trauma-informed services to survivors in Washington and Kane counties. These services include safe shelter, transitional housing, individual and family counseling, support groups, prevention education for youth and more.
