CEDAR CITY — Cedar City Police said a t-bone collision at the intersection of Main Street and Nichols Canyon Road happened when one of the drivers involved ran a red light.

“At this point, we still aren’t sure which driver had the green light,” Cedar City Police Sgt. Tim Bonzo said at the scene as officers were still collecting statements from witnesses.

“Once that’s determined, the at-fault driver will receive a citation,” he added.

The incident, which happened at approximately 2 p.m. on Saturday, involved a red Buick Enclave sport utility vehicle and a light brown Ford F-250 pickup.

Bonzo said the Ford truck was heading north on Main Street when it was struck on the rear passenger side by the Buick SUV, which had been heading west on Nichols Canyon Road.

No injuries were reported, Bonzo said. A responding Gold Cross Ambulance crew evaluated the vehicles’ occupants, including two young children who were riding in the Buick.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and needed to be towed from the scene. Traffic in the area was impacted for approximately 30 minutes while the roadway was cleared.

Also responding to the incident were Cedar City Fire Department and Utah Highway Patrol.

This report is based on preliminary statements from law enforcement officials and may not contain the full scope of findings.
